This is a stunning piece, very detailed and excellent composition. The expression on his face is quite remarkable and I think fits with the scene.
The use of textures on the debris behind him and deeper values on the shading would make him stand out a bit more. Right now he kind of disappears into the debris, as does the dog. More depth would be added with darker shading, as right now the ruins seem a bit flat.
For example, the crumbling brick wall in the middle right of the drawing fades into the ruined building behind it, since both are the same tone. If the brick was textured, or a different value than the building it would stand out as being separate and in the foreground.
Overall, this is an excellent piece and keeps you engaged and wanting to know more about the character(s) protrayed.
